We pack our bags for our trip around the world - 10 tips

Packing your suitcase for a trip around the world

As you already know, our world trip starts on June 28, 2024. We have now gained some experience with packing suitcases. You probably know how you often think at the last minute that you have to take this item with you and the other item too and you unnecessarily stuff and squeeze the backpack or suitcase full. We still do it that way for short trips. 😂 But for longer trips we want to avoid this drama and pack systematically. Ideally a few days in advance. 😉

Here are our 10 tips for packing your suitcase correctly:

1. Basics Checklist

Let's start with the basics. Choose the right suitcase for the length of your trip. Think about what you generally want to pack. Less is more. If you're flying to the Maldives, for example, you don't need any shoes at all. Just try going barefoot.😜 We only pack for a week and have the clothes washed. If necessary, we wear the clothes a second time. 🙃 If we're missing something, we buy it locally. So here we think carefully about how many sweatpants, T-shirts, shoes, etc. we need for seven days. It's helpful for us to have a checklist. Plan especially according to your leisure activities. If you're going to do a lot of sport, then pack more sports gear. If you start early, you can put a few of your favorite items aside every day so that you'll be sure to take them with you on your trip.

Here is a checklist to tick off:

2. The perfect combination

Be sure to consider which items of clothing you can combine to save space. A certain color selection can help you with this.

If you like to go shopping on holiday, consider packing less, because your purchases should still fit in your suitcase on the return journey and, after all, you can wear the items straight away on holiday.

3. Organizer

Not everyone likes things to be tidy, but sometimes it's helpful to have some organizers to find things more quickly.🤪 For our trip, we have separate clothes bags, as well as bags for cosmetics, makeup, and shoes.

Here you will find an organization system for your suitcase:

4. Roll up

If you roll up your clothes, you save a lot of space. Another advantage is that the clothes will have fewer wrinkles. If you are planning a short trip and are only travelling with a small trolley, you can even hide small rolls (e.g. socks) in your shoe.😄

5. Vacuuming

For even more space, you can use vacuum bags for non-sensitive clothing. Just make sure that the items are really dry and not damp.

You can find vacuum bags here:

6. Check the weather

Check online to see what the weather will be like so you can pack the right things.

If the weather forecast predicts rain, it is an advantage to have weatherproof clothing with you.

7. Light as a feather

Here we pay attention to the weight of the suitcase or travel bag. Yes, there are significant differences here. Some suitcases weigh 4.5 kilos alone! 😳 After all, we are going on holiday and don't want to torture ourselves with lugging our luggage around.

We also consider the weight of some items of clothing. The lighter, the better.

We also recommend that you check the baggage requirements in advance. Some airlines allow 23kg of baggage, while others only allow 20kg or 30kg.

A luggage scale can help. You can find one here:

8. Hand luggage

Things that we absolutely need in our hand luggage are: passports, debit/credit cards, cell phone and charging cable of course 😅, cash, valuables, headphones, chewing gum and tissues. To be on the safe side, we also pack a nasal spray for take-off and landing in case someone has a cold. Among other things, all the girls may also pack tampons. You may need emergency medication, please don't forget that! For the stronger medication, remember to get a doctor's note.🤓 Maybe sunglasses and/or your glasses if you wear them, a book and for longer flights we recommend a scarf. Some airlines switch the air conditioning to ice time, so it's better to have several layers of clothing on. Last but not least, make-up, deodorant, perfume and toothbrush if necessary. Note that liquids are permitted in a 1-liter bag with a maximum of 100 ml of liquid. It is best to take small testers with you.

You can find reusable bags here:

9. Things for emergencies

As we have already mentioned, you should have important emergency medication in your hand luggage and possibly a doctor's note. If you are taking medication with you, find out whether it is allowed into the country. All of us girls should also pack tampons and/or sanitary pads. If you are flying on a summer holiday, you could pack a bikini or swimming trunks in your hand luggage. Very rarely, it can happen that your luggage does not arrive, then you can at least enjoy the day in the sun.😎

10. Store cosmetics safely

To prevent your products from leaking, you can simply unscrew the lid, put aluminum foil between the containers and screw the lid back on. There is also a leak guard that you can put over hairspray and other products.

Trial sizes are also an advantage to save space or you can find your products in travel size. You can also transfer creams and other products into small containers.

You can find small travel bottles and containers here:

If you want to take your original things with you, you can find the right leak protection here:
